Sing your way to the top of the charts
Primary and nursery schools in Kent and Medway have the chance to become the 2013 Walk to School No.1 single.
Schools, classes, walking buses or just groups of friends can enter the competition. The prize will be for eight groups of finalists to be invited into the recording studio to professionally record their song. The school with the most text votes will be revealed on Christmas Day and will win the chance to perform at two prestigious walk to school events in 2014.
The event is being organised by the walk to school division of the KM Charity Team in association with Canterbury based Independent Music Productions.
How do I enter?
- Groups of children are asked to sing Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah. To assist you can download the backing track and song sheet from this website. See below.
- Schools can write different lyrics to go with the tune or use the original lyrics. You do not need to have backing music to enter and points will go to the most creative entires, for example writing your own lyrics adding harmonies or percussion.
- Send in a cassette, cd or other format of your group of children singing the song. This must arrive no later than noon on Friday, October 11, 2013. Send to: KM Charity Team, Gazette House, 5-8 Estuary View Business Park, Boorman Way, Whitstable Kent CT5 3SE. An adult contact should send this in and must include their name, address, telephone and email contact details, as well as the name of the class, school, walking bus or club the children are from.
- Children attending primary school or nursery in Kent and Medway in October 2013 are eligible to enter.
- Our panel of judges will select a maximum of eight groups to go into the final. Remember they are looking for creative entries and this can mean new lyrics, singing parts or hand held percussion instruments that can be easily accommodated with the studio session.Winners will be notified before the end of term and the names of schools, clubs or schemes will be published on this website.
- The eight finalists will be invited into Independent Music Production's (IMP) recording studio in Canterbury on Sunday, November 17 to professionally record two tracks: Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah and a special walking bus song.
How do we top the charts?
- You will be able to text to vote for your school, bus or group of friends' version of the track. Funds raised will go to this charity.
- Text votes can continue to be made after December 16 but will not count towards the chart position.
- The No.1 selling charity track will be revealed on the KM walk to school website on Christmas Day! Last year it was also announced on KMFM on Christmas Day.
- A CD of the songs will be available to purchase from IMP after the recording sessions. Options include framed CDs of the charity single with a photo of the singers printed on the front of the CD.
The school or group that earns the No.1 chart position will receive a free VIP version of this framed single to proudly display at school. They will also be invited to be star guests at our two flagship events, the Walk to School Awards and Buster's Big Bash in Canterbury in May.
So what do we do to get started?
